Sure, video games are raising our children and you can’t vote with a Wii remote. Now that the voting is over, President-elect Obama finds time to kick back with a little Wii Sports bowling.
In an article in the New York Times in which our soon-to-be President predicts a Florida win over Oklahoma in tonight’s BCS championship game, it is revealed that Barack Obama’s daughters received a shiny new Nintendo console when Santa Claus visited this year.
Mr. Obama said he’d have his hands full attempting to rescue the American economy. But he has gotten in a little practice in bowling lately on the Nintendo Wii his daughters received for Christmas. Mr. Obama, who famously struggled in bowling during last year’s Democratic primaries, said he performs better in the video game.
I don’t know much about politics, but it gives me an amazing amount of warm fuzzies knowing there’s going to be a game console in the White House.

We got this for Thanksgiving hoping to replicate the fired turkey experience and keep the heat out of the kitchen.
Here is the write up for the product

Turkey Fryer
“Char-Broil’s new infrared oil-less turkey fryer is the safe way to fry your turkey or any large cut of meat. And because it uses NO oil, it’s healthier, too. Prepare your turkey, pork loin or any large piece of meat with the same injectable marinade you already use, or use seasoned rubs on the outside, which is not an option with traditional fryers.
The infrared heat circles the cooker to penetrate the meat evenly and seal in juices. The result is a bird that’s moist inside and crispy outside but without the risk, hassle or added fat and calories of oil.
Safely cook a turkey (up to 25 lbs.) or chicken in about 8 to 10 minutes per pound. Roasts and most other large cuts of meat cook for slightly longer.”
We tried a test run 1 week before Thanksgiving and then tried again on Thanksgiving. The test run was with a 12 pound turkey. After 2 hours of cooking one side was done and the other side was raw. We rotated the bird and put it back for another 25 minutes. This time the breasts were done but the wings and legs were not.
The 24 pound Thanksgiving turkey was cooked for 3 1/2 hours up to 185. The skin was perfect and the breasts were juicy. The leg meat appeared done, but juices around that area still were very red. We also noticed that the skin in-between the leg and bird was also raw.
We ended up eating the breast and putting the remaining bird in the over for another 40 minutes.
Definitely be careful with this item as on two occasions it did not cook evenly.”

I was eating at a office cafeteria place and the checkout guy happened to be blind. He was awesome and very quick, but it made me realize how lacking the US bill is in terms of blind use. Every other country has different sized bills for the amount. The larger the amount the bigger the bill. This poor guy had to rely on the kindness of strangers to tell him what the US bill was. I’m sure no-one ripped him off, but I have seen the Ray Charles movie and it was certaintly an issue for Mr. Ray Charles.
I’m just waiting for a lawsuit on this one.
Data migration is critical to any project, but data often is a looming 800 pound bear with sharp claws. What if you have too much data, too much data corrupted, too much data incomplete and too little time?
A possible solution is to migrate the “necessities” and scrap the rest (temporarily or maybe permanently). What is used for validation? What is used for reporting?
I am working on a project and we are doing just that. We now have all the necessities mapped and migrated over, thus the application could go live. Data or a lack thereof is not holding us back at this point. We can keep our deadline and avoid influencing the critical path.
Separating the data into essential and non-essential also increased productivity as two database resources were used simultaneously.
In the project I’m working on now the non-essential data is only a couple of days behind and will be migrated completely over in ample time.

Holly starts her first day of class today. She will be taking AMS (American Montessori Society) certification classes for two years at which point she will be a bone fide Montessori teacher. Her classes are Tuesday and every other Saturday for the first year and then Saturday every week for the second year.
The plan is to get a house big enough to accommodate a small Montessori school (5-8 kids).
We shall see what happens.

Male Black Window Arizona
I found this male black widow in my garage. It took some in-depth research to find out it was a male, but the markings are clear as day.
The white patterns on the legs, the size and the unmistakable white hour glass on its abdomen are common to this species.
These little guys are harmless (according to wikipedia), but Holly is still concerned the big mama might show up. When I see one with a red hourglass I may be getting out the broom.

I was researching these Samadhi tanks tonight. (AKA…Float tanks). For those that don’t know Samadhi is taken from Buddhism (Sanskrit probably) meaning concentration or entering into trance. Buddhism taught Precept (Abandoning addictions) Samadhi and Wisdom. By virtue of enlightening to the first two principles one could achieve wisdom.
At any rate these float tanks are basically a tank with ten inches of water and 800 pounds of Epsom Salts. So you basically float in these things leading to increased relaxation, a possible meditation state, etc (or it just feels cool). You are apparently enough underwater that you cannot hear anything. Mix that with darkness and floating and you have a pretty cool experience. They run for $8k to $12k online, but you can build your own for around $800. Our house isn’t really big enough for such a thing, but at some point I want one of these babies….(search for Float tank or Samadhi tank on google to learn more)
Haha..there is a pretty good youtube video with Joe Rogan and his float tank.
